Zhukov: COP29 will help Central Asia in combating climate change

The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), which will be held in November in Azerbaijan, will help Central Asia in the fight against climate change, the Director General of the Central and West Asia Regional Department of the ADB, Eugene Zhukov, said at the ADB’s annual meeting in Tbilisi, Report informs.

According to him, the CAREC (Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program) climate change vision was approved last November in Tbilisi.

“Azerbaijan will host COP29, which will help Central Asia in the fight against climate change. It is important to note that the region is facing the consequences of these processes. Under these conditions, high transport and trade costs make diversification low in this region,” he said.

According to Zhukov, CAREC countries depend on trade in fossil fuels. “Today we have the opportunity to include trade as part of climate solutions,” he said.
